- Tesla's Roadster 2 hops on 80 kN of cold-gas thrust
“Flying car” is Musk’s framing; an aviation expert told CNN it is closer to a hop. The mechanism is the interesting part. Tesla’s Lars Moravy puts the rear thrusters at more than 80 kN — the same order as a Dassault Falcon 10X — paired with a suction system that claims 0–60 mph in 0.81 s at up to 5 g.
If you work on attitude control, rewatch the landing rather than the launch. The car leaves a ramp inverted, flips mid-air, and arrests its own descent on thrusters. That is a short-horizon attitude and altitude problem solved on an actuator with no continuous authority, which is a genuinely harder control problem than the acceleration number everyone is quoting.
Production is promised for 2028, by a programme that promised deliveries in 2020. Treat the date accordingly.
·WIRED - MCAP: a serialization-agnostic log container
Worth reading if you are still on rosbag2’s sqlite3 backend. The indexed, chunked layout means you can seek into a multi-gigabyte recording without decompressing the whole thing — which matters a lot once you are shipping compressed video topics alongside joint states.
